MEET THE OWNER
CODY ALARIC
With over 17 years in heavy industry, Cody Alaric leads Unobtanium Metals with deep technical expertise and front-line leadership. Based in Edmonton, Alberta, his experience spans oil and gas, pulp and paper, railcar manufacturing, power generation, and potash—industries where precision and reliability are critical.
Starting at 16 as a pipefitter’s helper in a southern BC pulp mill, Cody completed a Red Seal pipefitting apprenticeship and the Welding Engineering Technologist program at SAIT in Calgary. He has held roles from quality inspector to superintendent and project manager, overseeing large piping crews and complex projects across Canada.
Cody founded Unobtanium Metals to address a persistent industry issue: the lack of access to hard-to-source or urgently needed materials. He built a business model around on-call material procurement and 24/7 service, specializing in rare alloys, discontinued metals, and precision CNC-cut components.
Under his leadership, Unobtanium Metals is known for exceptional response times, strict quality control, and full transparency. Materials are delivered with Mill Test Reports (MTRs), and clients receive consistent updates from quote to delivery.
A standout project was the rapid fabrication and delivery of a custom cone component during an emergency plant shutdown in fall 2024—designed, cut, formed, and delivered within the same day to restore operations by morning. Beyond the shop, Cody supports Alberta Bulldog Rescue and sponsors the University of Alberta Formula Racing Team, contributing to the next generation of mechanical engineers. Unobtanium Metals remains 100% Canadian-owned and operated, built on Cody’s belief in quality, accountability, and responsiveness.
